Did Brock Lesnar Have Personal Issues With The Undertaker During Their Confrontation at UFC 121?

Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker are among a rare breed of wrestlers. Both are responsible for changing WWE’s landscape ever since their respective debuts. The two crossed paths on several occasions over their career. The matches between the two were known to be all-out brawls and left the fans always wanting more.

The Beast Incarnate was billed as the face of the WWE in the early 2000s. And he did not disappoint with his performances, destroying established wrestlers week after week was a norm for the then-hotshot. Legends such as The Rock and Hulk Hogan were not a match as they tasted defeats at the hands of Lesnar.

The 2002 rivalry with the Undertaker did pose a threat to Lesnar’s dominance. And both impressed the fans with their chemistry whenever they went face to face. It, however, came as a shock to many when Lesnar decided to leave the WWE. Fans and his fellow wrestlers were stunned alike by this sudden departure after so much promise.

The confrontation between Brock Lesnar and The Phenom in UFC

The Beast later tried his hands at the MMA promotion UFC. And he was largely successful in his initial career there. However, Lesnar was destroyed by Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 in 2010. With his former colleague, The Undertaker, in attendance that fateful night.

The Phenom was in an interview after the match when Lesnar was returning to the backstage area. The two would face off, with The Undertaker saying, “Do You Wanna do it?”. On being instantly asked about the confrontation, The Deadman would say, “It’s kind of a personal thing. I think he needs to train a little harder.”

Brock Lesnar finally returned to the WWE in 2012. And they would eventually come face to face in WrestleMania 30. Lesnar went ahead and shocked the entire world that night, as he broke The Phenom’s 21-match unbeaten streak in the annual showpiece. 

The Undertaker clears the air around the face-off

The Undertaker later clarified what actually transpired between him and Lesnar back in 2010. In an interaction with ESPN MMA in 2020, he said, “I was there to pick a fight. Yeah, I was sent there personally to pick a fight and I was unaware that Dana had no clue what was gonna happen which I felt horrible about after the fact. I thought there had been some kind of discussion between him and Vince.

At that time, Brock was so hot in the MMA world. There was no personal animosity. really it was me saying you left our world I’m gonna come into your world and I’m gonna call you out.added the WWE legend.

The Phenom’s clarification does seem to point out that the confrontation might just have been a work. Both the legends are said to have shared good terms outside the ring. The Undertaker reportedly handpicked Lesnar to break his WrestleMania streak. Nevertheless, it would be great for the fans to learn the truth from the horse’s mouth. Instead, them scrambling for years to find out what really happened during the famous confrontation.
