Microsoft has had a long-running partnership with AMD for its consoles. Starting with the Xbox 360, to the next-gen Series X|S, AMD processors have been at the core of Microsoft consoles. The strategic partnership has been ongoing for 15 years now and has had fruitful gains for both parties. Therefore, with just a few days ahead of the launch of next-gen consoles, AMD revealed the RDNA 2 Architecture implemented in them.
Xbox claimed that the hardware used in the Series X|S is the only one available in the market that can fully utilize all the capabilities of RDNA 2. Therefore, with the help of AMD’s Zen 2 GPU, the consoles will deliver a much more powerful and efficient performance. Additionally, they will significantly enhance gameplays, making them smoother and visibly appealing.

The RDNA 2 Architecture delivers a host of new features. These improve the performance of consoles and the quality of games on it by a huge multiple. Xbox explained this in detail in a recent blog post about the features of the GPU and its effect on games.
The processor includes hardware-accelerated DirectX RayTracing, Mesh Shaders, Sampler Feedback and Variable Rate Shading. Moreover, these features help developers to deliver efficiently enhanced games to players.

Games on the next-gen Microsoft consoles will “deliver a new level of visual fidelity and immersion through techniques such as realistic lighting, shadows, reflections and acoustics.”

The developers will execute this with the help of DirectX Raytracing. Moreover, the “Mesh Shaders can manipulate geometry in real time to provide a high level of fidelity and flexibility that developers have never had before.”
Furthermore, the rest of the features will allow various games to provide up to “an effective 2.5x memory and bandwidth multiplier beyond the raw hardware capabilities” and a “more consistent frame rates and resolution at the exact same image quality.”
All these features will be available in the Xbox launch lineup, which includes major titles such as Watch Dogs: Legion, Gears 5, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Dirt 5, and many more.

Microsoft also plans for developers to include the prospect of PC games to utilize these features. They aim to deliver a similar experience to console and PC users in the foreseeable future. Finally, Microsoft promises users that the next decade is going to be full of gifts for the gaming industry.
