As 2021 begins, Xbox Live already has free games to offer. For all the members with a Live Gold subscription, a selection of free games arrives in January. As part of ‘Games with Gold’, Microsoft will offer at least four free games in the first month of 2021.

All of these are classic Xbox games that will also be available on the Series X|S via backward compatibility. The combined value of all the free games is $79.96 and they have a score of 3000 in Gamerscore.

Out of the four, only Little Nightmares is free throughout the month. The critically acclaimed 2017 game is getting a sequel next month. Therefore, it makes perfect sense to offer the game to players for free as a promotion.

Three other free Xbox Live Gold games in January 2021

Another game that is available for free starting January 1 is King of Fighters XIII. The 2010 Xbox 360 game also comes to the newer generation of consoles this month. However, the 2010 debut game is only available for free till January 15.

Two other games go free starting January 16. Deadrising will be available for free for a whole month till February 15, while Breakdown will only be available till the end of January.

All these games will be permanent downloads. Therefore, if players with a Gold subscription download them during the given window, they can access them as long as they are subscribed.

A lot of players are complaining that they would rather prefer fresh titles as freebies. However, it wouldn’t be a profitable model for Xbox to do so. For many, these titles aren’t as bad since they provide a trip down memory lane.
