Jack Nicklaus once revealed the best shot he has ever seen in golf, and without a doubt, plenty of people will be on the same page. He exclaimed that Tiger Woods’ chip shot on the 16th during the final round of the 2012 Memorial is the best golf shot he has ever seen.
Tiger played a poor tee shot on the par-3 16th hole. His ball was in the thick rough while there was a slope on the green towards the pond. Therefore, reaching anywhere near the flagstick was a tremendous achievement.“Anything within 6 feet would be a good shot,” said the commentators on air.
However, with all the experience, the 46-year-old played a high chip shot and allowed the slope to do its job. The ball landed on the perfect spot, and the slope guided it inside the hole. Meanwhile, everyone witnessing this was awestruck by the imagination and execution of the shot from Tiger Woods.
Tiger went on to win the event. And while congratulating Woods, Jack said, “Tiger. Unbelievable playing. The shot you played on 16, I think is the gutsiest, the best shot I have ever seen in golf.” Furthermore, he said the same thing in the post-round press conference. “I don’t think under the circumstances, I have seen a better shot,” revealed Jack.
The legendary golfer Tiger Woods has dominated the golfing world since his debut. However, he also dominated the tournament hosted by Jack Nicklaus, The Memorial. Tiger has won The Memorial five times in his career so far, and there is no one close to him at the moment.
We saw how Woods struggled at the recent 2022 PGA Championship and he has already made it clear that he will be competing only in selected tournaments. Hence, Woods will not be competing at The Memorial this year.
