While Oscar de la Hoya Sets on a Mission to Save Boxing, Showtime Cancels Their Initial Plans of Last PPV Fight in December 2023

In the ever-evolving sport of boxing, one punch can shift the balance in a fight. Similarly, a seismic shift is upon the boxing world as legendary boxer Oscar De La Hoya begins his journey to rescue the sport from uncertainty. However, just as news from Oscar came to light, Showtime canceled its highly anticipated fight, originally scheduled for December 9, 2023.

Premier Boxing Champion has canceled its planned Showtime Pay-per-view event. The fight was scheduled to unfold at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, featuring Eimantas Stanionis vs. Keith Thurman and Erislandy Lara vs. Danny Garcia. However, that doesn’t mean the broadcasting company won’t have a last fight. Meanwhile, Oscar De La Hoya has some plans that can produce some of the biggest fights in the future.

Oscar De La Hoya wants to bring the best fights possible

Recently, the former world champion and boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya turned to X (formerly Twitter), sharing a vital update on his plans to host a mega boxing event. ‘Golden Boy’ De La Hoya asserted he is planning a meeting with several boxing promoters. “Organizing a moderated round table with some boxing promoters,” wrote Oscar.

In the same tweet, Oscar made a massive revelation, claiming he is on some sort of mission to build the best boxing matches feasible at the moment. “I’m on a mission to bring you the best fights possible,” wrote the former champion. Mysteriously, Oscar refrained from revealing anything else. However, Oscar informed everyone that he would keep them updated about it. “I’ll keep you posted where you can watch and when,” he wrote.

Showtime will televise it’s final fight

Even though Showtime’s December 9th fight is canceled, there is some good news on the horizon. Recently, Michale Benson took X, sharing a recent development regarding Showtime’s next moves. According to Benson, Showtime’s last fight will be a non-PPV event that will air on 16th December in Minneapolis.

“[Showtime] will instead stage one last non-PPV show on Dec 16th in Minneapolis before shutting down,” wrote Benson. He went on to reveal that the main card of the fight will have David Morrell. “It’s claimed this card will be headlined by David Morrell,” wrote Benson. It’s worth mentioning that who Morrel will face is still undetermined.
