Practice sessions are typically the safe part of the weekend. For Keelan Harvick at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington, it was where everything fell apart. His No. 62 car was done after a heavy crash, and with it, so was his zMAX CARS Tour West weekend. Or so it seemed.

“I wrecked my car in practice, fixed it all night. We missed the first practice, got five laps before qualifying. Qualified 11th, went back to back, drove up, went back to back again,” the 13-year-old said after the race, posted via Short Track Scene on X.

Here is what actually happened overnight. Kevin Harvick Inc. and Rackley WAR took the car Kevin himself had driven to a second-place finish the night before in the Pro Late Model race.

They pulled the engine out of Keelan’s wrecked car and dropped it into Kevin’s chassis. Then they stripped Kevin’s car completely and re-wrapped it as Keelan’s No. 62. Two cars, one night, one working race car by morning.

Keelan got 30 minutes of practice to figure out a car he had never driven before. Then qualifying. Then the race, where he went through the field twice and came out with a podium. He knew that results wasn’t only because of his driving on the racetrack.

“It just wouldn’t be possible without all my crew guys. Stayed up more than 24 hours to fix my car. All the props to them. That’s pretty much what it boils down to.”

A podium finish for Keelan. Bragging rights that belong to the crew. What happened at Evergreen Speedway fits neatly into where Keelan’s career is headed. Earlier this year, Toyota Racing Development signed the 13-year-old to a long-term development contract, placing him in their TD2 program alongside names like Christopher Bell and Ty Gibbs. For a family with ties to Chevrolet and Ford, it was a genuine surprise to see him go the Toyota route.

Toyota Racing Development President Tyler Gibbs went after Keelan for good reason. At 13, his resume is already unusual. Youngest-ever winner of the Snowflake 125 at Five Flags Speedway.

Winner of the Florence Motor Speedway Icebreaker. Made history by winning in both CARS Tour and CARS Tour West Pro Late Model Series. Took the 2024 INEX Young Lions National Championship.

The deal comes with full access to the Toyota Performance Center, covering fitness, sports psychology, and nutrition. ExxonMobil is on board as primary sponsor for a multi-race schedule.

None of this was the original plan. Keelan spent years in Europe chasing Formula 1 through international karting. A weekend in Italy changed that. Charles Leclerc came to watch his nephew race. The crowd, the energy, a few conversations, and something clicked. Keelan came back home and pointed himself toward NASCAR instead.

The overnight rebuild at Evergreen Speedway tells you a lot about how this program works. For Keelan Harvick, that kind of support is what the next few years are going to be built on.

Kyle Larson’s was to race at Richmond on the same day the Knoxville Nationals was scheduled. So, naturally, some fans wondered why he would even run the preliminary event if he could not make the main race. But Larson had no intention of giving up his shot at another Knoxville crown. After racing in Richmond, he made the frantic trip to Iowa and somehow pulled it off, winning his fourth Knoxville Nationals title. And that’s why Kenny Wallace is saying the complaining fans ‘deserve this a– chewing.’

“So, you might have b—— and moaned about the scheduling, the rescheduling, and this and that, but it didn’t matter cuz it f——- rained. All of you were wrong all the way around. You were wrong about everything. You deserve this a– chewing if you’ve made it this far.”

Kenny Wallace’s verdict came after a night that made the complaints surrounding Larson’s schedule look rather premature.

Larson had seemingly accepted that his NASCAR commitments would keep him out of the Knoxville Nationals. After winning his preliminary feature and securing the pole for Saturday’s 65th running, the odds appeared stacked against him.

Then Mother Nature intervened. As Kyle Larson focused on Richmond, rain repeatedly pushed back the Knoxville schedule. During a caution, crew chief Cliff Daniels delivered the news Larson had been hoping for. If the timing worked, he could still make it to Iowa. And it did eventually!

So, after finishing sixth at Richmond (The Cup race ended at 10:17 local time), Larson immediately left for Richmond International Airport. A chartered flight carried him toward Pella, Iowa, while more than 16,000 people reportedly tracked the aircraft.

A police escort then helped him reach Knoxville Raceway, where he arrived before the B-Main. Kyle Larson had missed hot laps. However, that hardly mattered. Larson looked completely at home once he climbed into Silva Motorsports’ No. 57.

He led all 50 laps of the A-Main feature and secured his fourth Knoxville Nationals crown. “It’s just wild how I’m here tonight,” Larson said after the race.

Interestingly, this time the weather worked in favor of Larson, which is rare. His previous attempts to run double have ended in heartbreaks.

Repeated Indy heartbreaks for Larson

In 2024, Larson attempted the Indianapolis 500-Charlotte 600 Memorial Day Double, but mother nature had other plans. Despite rain delays, he stayed at Indy and when he returned to Charlotte, the race got washed out due to rains. Christopher Bell was declared the winner.

That created another problem. Because the Charlotte race was a points-paying Cup Series event, Larson needed a NASCAR waiver to preserve his postseason eligibility after missing the start. NASCAR was initially hesitant before ultimately allowing him to remain eligible.

The drama surrounding his trip to Charlotte became almost as captivating as the racing itself. Fans tracked a small yellow aircraft online, desperately watching its progress after Larson’s early exit from the Indianapolis 500.

The hope was that he could still reach Charlotte in time. It never came together. Kyle Larson returned for another attempt in 2025, but the Double again delivered nothing but disappointment. He spun on Lap 91 of the Indianapolis 500 and finished 24th.

His night in Charlotte ended prematurely as well. Larson was caught in a multi-car accident on Lap 246, ending his Coca-Cola 600 before he could complete the challenge.

Two straight attempts had produced two brutally difficult experiences. The logistical demands, physical toll and repeated bad luck eventually changed Kyle Larson’s view of the Double. He indicated that another attempt was not worth the strain.

That made Saturday’s Knoxville journey feel almost poetic. Once again, Larson needed weather and timing to cooperate. This time, they finally did.

Joey Logano just won at Richmond Raceway. It was his second win in four races. Three months ago, he was sitting 20th in the standings with finishes of 33rd, 37th, and 39th on his recent record. The people who had already written him off are now doing the math. And veteran NASCAR commentator Bob has a message for all of them.

“Every time I seem to count out Joey Logano, I know I’ve said before. It seems that he tends to become a player, and he certainly has become a player in the last couple months.” he gave the analysis via FOX, NASCAR on X.

The thing is, Bob gets why people wrote him off. The logic was sound. Logano’s entire legacy is build NASCAR’s old elimination playoff format. Every few years, he would have a messy regular season, then flip a switch when it mattered. Three championships came from that exact approach. In 2024, his full-season average finish was 17.1. He still took the title.

NASCAR changed the format for 2026. Gone is the elimination system where one win could carry a driver through a round. The new 10-race Chase is a straight points race. Best cumulative score after 10 races wins. No lifelines, no shortcuts. Every bad finish stays on the board.

That alone was supposed to be the end of the Joey Logano formula. Then there is the track problem. The Chase schedule is heavy on intermediate tracks, the 1.5-mile ovals where Toyota teams consistently have the edge over Team Penske. Bob addressed this directly.

“That’s not Joey Logano’s strength. That’s not Penske’s strength. That’s Toyota’s strength.”

Through the first half of 2026, everything pointed that way. Joey Logano was buried. His average finish sat at 17.3. He was getting lapped by the conversation. It was then that the “Even Year Logano” came to race on track.

Here is the pattern that keeps biting people. In 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024, every even-numbered year, Logano has reached the Championship 4. Not always by dominating. By peaking at exactly the right time.

On July 19, he won at North Wilkesboro Speedway and snapped a 45-race winless streak. Then on August 15 at Richmond, he led 95 laps and beat Chase Briscoe to the line. That is three top-five finishes in the last four races. He has gone from 20th to 9th in the standings with two regular-season races still to go.

The 2026 points structure also gives him another incentive. Race winners earn 55 points. Second place gets 35. That 20-point gap every single week adds up fast. Joey Logano does not need to grind out consistent top-fives across ten races. He just needs to keep finding victory lane.

“I’m not going to predict him to win it,” Bob said. “But anybody who counts him out and counts Paul Wolfe out, you do it, you know, kind of at your own expense”

He left it there. Anyone who has watched Joey Logano long enough knows exactly that the No. 22 team has found their mojo, just at the right time. And now everybody who had wrote him off will start to take notice.

All the attention after Sunday’s Richmond race was on Kyle Larson, and rightly so. The HMS driver hustled out of the No. 5 car and flew to Knoxville, where he clinched his fourth career Knoxville Nationals title. Driving the No. 57 sprint car, Larson led all 50 laps of the A-Main feature to claim the $200,000 prize. But Larson wasn’t the only driver to pull off double duty and finish the weekend with a trophy.

Stewart Friesen suffered a DNF at Richmond during the Craftsman Truck Series race. But he had another objective this weekend, and like Larson, he flew to Fonda Speedway in New York to compete for a championship. Starting 22nd, Friesen drove his way through the field to finish fourth, which was enough to secure the Big-Block Modified championship.

FloRacing shared the update on X: “ @StewartFriesen flew from Richmond Raceway to @thefondaspdwy following Saturday’s #NASCAR Truck Series race and drove from 22nd to 4th to clinch the 2026 Modified championship.”

Alex Yankowski, who started the race 10th, weaved his way through traffic to secure the win. Meanwhile, Friesen’s wife, Jessica, finished second. One member of the Friesen family finished on the podium, while the other picked up the championship trophy. Stewart Friesen won seven of the 14 races and topped the standings with 736 points.

Yankowski, who won the feature at Fonda Speedway, finished second in the championship standings with three wins. Meanwhile, Friesen’s wife, Jessica, finished fourth overall. Now, this wasn’t a crown jewel event like the Knoxville Nationals, but Larson wasn’t the only driver to pull off double duty and end the weekend with a trophy.

The only thing that could have made Friesen’s weekend better would have been a strong finish in the Truck Series race at Richmond. He suffered a tire failure with 30 laps to go and slammed his No. 52 truck into the wall. The crash came at the worst possible time. Coming into the race, Friesen had a narrow eight-point advantage over Tyler Ankrum for the 10th and final spot in the playoff standings.

But after the DNF, he has now dropped below the cutline and sits 11th in the standings. The gap between him and Ankrum is now 20 points, with just one race remaining in the regular season. Stewart Friesen’s hopes of making the championship race now rest on one final race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The fight over Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway has taken another contentious turn. A campaign accused of using a fake petition to influence Nashville residents is now facing fresh scrutiny over an online video. The latest allegations involve AI-generated footage and staged performances pushing an anti-racing message.

For supporters of the historic speedway, the controversy has become another chapter in the much larger battle over its future. This time, the focus is on a Facebook advertisement targeting the future of racing at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.

According to YouTuber Daniel Baldwin on X, the campaign behind the ad is using AI-generated video, featuring people posing as Nashville residents to push its message against racing at the Fairgrounds.

The campaign says it is focused on affordable housing, but Baldwin argues that its real goal is to push racing out of the property. He pointed to nearby apartment prices, saying they raise questions about how much the development would actually help with affordability.

Baldwin also suggested the property could be worth more as a parking and entertainment district and questioned who is funding the campaign.

The comments section of this video was reportedly filled with people calling out the campaign, questioning the authenticity of the video and the people appearing in it.

The criticism comes roughly two weeks after hidden-camera footage exposed questionable tactics surrounding a petition campaign at the same venue. NewsChannel 5 previously reported that people were being paid to stand outside GEODIS Park during Nashville SC games. They approached fans and claimed that the Fairgrounds Speedway was already scheduled for demolition.

That claim was false. Secret recordings obtained by the station captured petition canvassers telling potential signers that demolition was confirmed. One canvasser reportedly told a man, “Yes. That’s confirmed. Either way, it’s getting demolished.”

There were no demolition plans in place. Now, opponents of the latest campaign argue that the messaging has evolved rather than disappeared. The controversy is particularly significant because NASCAR does not control the Fairgrounds property.

The land is owned by the city of Nashville. That means NASCAR cannot simply decide to demolish the speedway or remove the facility. In fact, NASCAR has publicly indicated that it wants to return to the historic venue if Nashville moves forward with renovations.

Mayor Freddie O’Connell has also left the door open to another Cup Series race in the city. His office has said it has “been keeping our doors open for the best possible ideas that are most protective of taxpayers.”

Fairgrounds Speedway has been around for 122 years and has a long history with stock car racing. The NASCAR Cup Series last visited the fairgrounds in 1984. They returned to Nashville in 2021, but at the Nashville Superspeedway, about 30 miles from downtown.

Since then, several big names in NASCAR have pushed for the Cup Series to return to the Fairgrounds. Denny Hamlin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. have both been vocal about bringing racing back to the historic track.

But the ongoing controversy shows just how complicated that process has become. The latest allegations over AI-generated content and staged videos have added another layer to an already heated debate.

Elliott Sadler had not raced a truck at Richmond Raceway in 25 years. Saturday night, he was back, less than an hour from his hometown of Emporia, Virginia, in front of a home crowd, with his kids watching from the stands. He finished 32nd and four laps down, and he was disappointed in himself for nothing performing well.

“It’s a good feeling. Anytime you get in there and you buckle the window net up. But I definitely didn’t do my job today as a driver at all,” Sadler said after the race.

Only Sadler would say that. He came into the weekend with zero expectations, no contract on the line, no points to chase. He said himself it was “no worries, no stress” all week.

The whole purpose of being there was to give his teenage children a memory of seeing their dad in a helmet, climbing through a window net at a real NASCAR race. He did that. Truck came back in one piece too. But Elliott Sadler being Sadler, the finish still bothered him.

The race had a learning curve baked in. He had not driven a truck since 2011, and the modern version is a completely different animal. He struggled on restarts, held back intentionally to keep from wrecking. On the longer runs, the team’s adjustments gave him something to work with. It just was not enough to move up.

The whole thing started with a phone call. Kaulig Racing CEO Chris Rice rang Elliott Sadler in January and pitched the idea. Sadler was not immediately sold. Then he asked his family.

His kids “lit up like a Christmas tree.”

Done deal. Sadler had taken a backstep from full-time racing back in 2018 to coach his children’s youth sports teams. They were too young to remember his Cup and, what was then called Xfinity, days. This weekend was their chance to see it firsthand.

Hermie Sadler was on pit road the whole time, microphone in hand. The veteran broadcaster had been away from television for years and came back specifically for this event. He interviewed Elliott live before the race. When it ended, he was standing there again on pit road waiting. Two brothers, one with a truck and one with a mic, at the track they both grew up watching.

As for Elliott Sadler, he slotted into something Kaulig Racing has been building all season. The No. 25 truck runs a rotating “Free Agent Driver Program” in 2026, putting a different name behind the wheel at select events.

Sadler was the 13th driver this year. Before him came Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman, Clint Bowyer, Travis Pastrana, and Jamie McMurray, among others.

The truck itself has a story too. Kaulig Racing is the factory anchor team bringing Ram Trucks back to NASCAR for the first time since 2016.

Elliott Sadler’s career ran for over two decades, 438 Cup starts with three wins, 397 O’Reilly starts with 13 wins, and now 22 total Truck Series appearances with one win to his name. He raced at the highest level for a long time before walking away on his own terms.

Saturday was Elliott’s one last hurrah, but it didn’t pan out exactly the way he envisioned it.

Ross Chastain may not have gotten the result he wanted at Richmond. But after months of frustration, the 12th-place finish offered Trackhouse Racing another reason for optimism.

Following up on a seventh-place finish in Iowa, Chastain has now put together two solid results in two weeks. With only New Hampshire and Daytona remaining before the Chase, the No. 1 team finally has momentum at the right time.

“I’ll just keep running in the top ten like we did tonight. That’s getting on base. I feel like if we’d have been doing this all summer, we’d be in a lot of different spots. So this is way above where the summer was. Of course we want more, but it’s a lot better,” Chastain said to Frontstretch after the Cook Out 400 on Saturday.

For much of the season, even finishing inside the top 10 had been difficult for Chastain. Entering the 23rd race of the season with just one top-five and five top-10 finishes, the No. 1 Chevrolet was buried in the standings and facing an uphill battle to make the Chase. Then, the Iowa Corn 350 changed the picture, as a strong seventh-place finish moved him from 21st to 18th in the standings in just one weekend.

Richmond did not bring another top-10 finish, but it was still a solid outing for Chastain. He finished 12th and led Trackhouse’s charge, finishing ahead of teammate Shane van Gisbergen and RFK Racing’s Ryan Preece.

However, a big points haul from Austin Cindric, who finished third, shook up the playoff bubble. Despite beating his closest rivals on the track, Chastain slipped further behind the Chase cutline and now sits 63 points out of the final transfer spot, occupied by his teammate Shane van Gisbergen.

There are now only two races remaining before the Chase begins. New Hampshire Motor Speedway comes next, followed by the regular-season finale at Daytona International Speedway.

Chastain likely needs more than just top-10 finishes. Sitting 63 points below the cutline with only two races left, his most realistic path to the Chase may be a desperate push for a win.

The immediate objective is straightforward. He wants to keep building momentum. “I’m gonna prepare this week and go try to win,” he said after the Cook Out 400, making his goals ahead of the Dollar Tree 301 clear.

After spending much of the summer searching for consistency, Chastain finally has something to build on. Two strong finishes in a row have given him some much-needed momentum. Making the Chase will still be difficult, but for now, Trackhouse has reason to look ahead with a little more optimism.

One of dirt racing’s most popular figures, Randle Chupp, is in distress. A dirt late model car belonging to his race team and consulting stable went missing and was reported stolen. With no trace of it found for days, Chupp went public, asking the racing community to help in any way they could.

Chupp, son of the legendary 803-time race winner Gene Chupp, took to Facebook to directly address his fans: “Racing friends, I need some help. I’ll give anyone $1,000.00 for information leading to recovery, and/or prosecution for the theft of this race car stolen in Cleveland, Tennessee…”

The car, which driver Carlton Traweek regularly competed in at the Super Bee Speedway in Louisiana, went missing in the middle of last week. And Chupp urged those viewing his post to share it or pass the message along.

“Nobody likes a thief,” Chupp added in his caption.

He also shared images of the car to help with its recovery. It is a distinctive white Dirt Late Model with the number 15 in bold red and white, outlined by a blue shadow on the side panels. The front nose features a large yellow-and-black “Kepper Equipment Rental” logo, while the sides carry “Cajun Tree Cutters” and “Gordon Hemphill Towing” graphics, making the car easily recognizable to anyone in the racing community.

The dirt racing world is a tight-knit community, so a car like this would be difficult to resell or race openly. With more than 1,000 shares on Facebook already, the message has spread across the dirt racing community.

Even if the thieves try to strip the car and sell the parts separately, that may not be easy. Specialized components such as the custom shocks, crate engine, and branded chassis could be difficult to move without attracting attention on local buy-and-sell forums.

Chupp, known as “The Show Stopper”, did the smart thing by alerting the community about his stolen car, and his popularity could really help solve this case.

Chupp began his racing career in the 1980s, and went on to win eight races on the highly competitive Southern All-Star Dirt Racing Series circuit and won multiple major big-money events. But what truly made him a legend in this world is his work as crew chief.

He has worked with some of the best drivers in dirt racing, including his father, Freddy Smith, Ronnie Johnson, and Jack Boggs. With Johnson, he won two Dirt Track World Championship titles and added another with Boggs.

In NASCAR, he also left his mark as Jeff Green’s foreman during the 2000 O’Reilly Series, then known as the Busch Series. The No. 10 team went on to win the championship by a historic 1,053-point margin.

For now, Chupp is hoping the racing community can do what it does best and come together. With the car still missing, every share, tip, or bit of information could make a difference in getting the No. 15 back where it belongs.

Chase Elliott started the Cook Out 400 from 13th, battled his way through the field, and eventually finished fifth. It wasn’t the kind of result a legendary organization like Hendrick Motorsports would outright celebrate. But after months of frustration with the Chevrolet cars, Elliott saw something more important in this strong result, especially with the Chase just two races away.

For the No. 9 team, Richmond’s result offered a chance to finally start rebuilding momentum after what’s been a difficult few months for HMS. He admitted as much in an interview with reporter Dustin Long after the race on Saturday, 12 August.

“You just kind of have to start stacking some small victories together. I feel like to get something in the right direction, I hope that that was, you know, tonight was an indication of that course. I thought it was a really solid effort with room for improvement. I felt like I made a couple mistakes, had a couple hiccups on pit road. So to know that we can not be perfect, but to get out of here with the top five, I think is really encouraging,” Elliott said to Long.

The No. 9 team had been searching for answers since Elliott’s victory at Texas Motor Speedway on May 3. That win appeared to put the Hendrick driver in a strong position heading into the summer. But afterward, the results turned inconsistent.

Elliott went 12 consecutive races without another top-five finish. During that stretch, he managed only one top-10 result: a seventh-place finish at Nashville Superspeedway.

The slump became even more concerning heading into Richmond. Elliott had finished outside the top 10 in nine consecutive races. It was the longest such streak of his Cup Series career. That’s exactly what made Saturday night different.

The No. 9 Chevrolet quickly worked its way into the top 10 during the opening stage, with Elliott picking up two stage points and giving the team an early sign of its competitive pace. He continued his charge in Stage 2, finishing second and adding four more points to his tally. More importantly, the Hendrick Motorsports car remained competitive as the laps wore on instead of fading, with Elliott’s strongest run coming in the closing stages.

Over the final 170 laps, crew chief Alan Gustafson and the No. 9 team executed their strategy effectively by pitting late on Lap 363, unlike Christopher Bell, who opted for a one-pit-stop strategy by pitting early.

Elliott gained another two positions before taking the checkered flag in fifth. That made him the highest-finishing Chevrolet driver of the night.

By finishing fifth at Richmond Raceway, Elliott also officially secured his spot in the Chase, which begins in three weeks. He now sits tied for sixth in the Cup Series standings. There was also reason for Hendrick Motorsports to feel encouraged as a whole.

All four of Hendrick Motorsports’ Chevrolets finished inside the top 10 at Richmond, with Kyle Larson’s strong run helping him climb to eighth in the standings. William Byron, meanwhile, remains comfortably above the playoff cutline in 12th, although he drops one spot overall.

For Chase Elliott, though, the biggest takeaway was much simpler. Richmond didn’t require perfection. He made mistakes, the team had its share of hiccups, and yet the No. 9 still came away with a fifth-place finish. After months of searching for momentum, that may have been the small victory Elliott needed.

Joey Logano won his second race of the season at Richmond Raceway, and all of a sudden, he’s back in championship contention. The win was special for Logano, not just because of its implications for the standings, but because he wants to silence his haters.

Logano won all three of his championships under the elimination-style playoff format. The No. 22 team made the most of the format despite not always being the dominant team. That’s why some fans have labeled him a “Mickey Mouse champion.” Now that the 10-race championship run is back in the mix, Logano wants to silence his naysayers.

Speaking to the media during the post-race press conference, Logano said, “Do I have a chip on my shoulder? Yeah, that’s a clear yes. So much that our slogan on the team hauler on the scoreboard is ‘for the haters.’ That’s where we’re at, so that’s a good little extra motivation. Either way, the Mickey Mouse years look good on the trophies, and the check was pretty cool to go with it.”

In the win-and-you’re-in format, Logano and the No. 22 team knew how to flip the switch during the playoffs. Take his 2024 title run, for example. He entered the playoffs in 15th place with a single win, which came at Nashville. He then won at Atlanta, securing his advance to the Round of 12, before catching another lucky break.

In the penultimate race of the Round of 12 at the Roval, Logano was out of the title race. But Alex Bowman’s disqualification gave him another lifeline. In the very first race of the Round of 8 at Las Vegas, he won and secured his spot in the Championship 4. Then, at Phoenix, he claimed his third NASCAR Cup Series championship.

Logano and his team weren’t cheating; they were playing by the rules NASCAR had set. Interestingly, he has always backed the playoff format, saying, “For people to complain, it makes me mad. It makes me so frustrated to hear that. Because golly, man, it is awesome.” But now that the rules have changed and the playoffs are no longer in the picture, it has given Logano even more motivation—to prove to his critics that he can win titles under the playoffs format as well as in a 10-race championship run.

Another thing to look out for is that this is an even year. All three of the championships the Penske driver has won have come in even years. So, playoffs or no playoffs, Logano is right where he needs to be and could be contending for another Cup Series championship.
