Sony released its latest VR set, PlayStation VR2. The System went “out of stock” in a very short time. As the demand for the Virtual Reality device rises, scalpers are taking advantage. So PS VR2 is taking orders on an “invite only” basis in particular regions. 

PlayStation VR2 is the new and enhanced version of the previously released PS VR back in 2016. The PS VR was released just after PS4. The older version didn’t need the user to own a PS4 or PS4 Pro to play games in the VR. However, in the case of PlayStation VR2, a PlayStation 5 is necessary in order to use it.  

Only a handful of customers got the chance to pre-order the device so far. The high demand and low stocks of PS VR2 are inspiring scalpers on the online website. According to the pre-order available in the regions of the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, the price of the device ranges from $549.99 to $599.99. But the scalper prices are going way beyond that. 

Scalpers selling PS VR 2 on eBay at higher prices

The low supply has motivated the scalpers to sell their pre-orders at a much higher price on eBay. According to a brand-new listing on the website, the lowest price of a scalped PS VR2 is around $850. But one has to keep in mind that this is a pre-order sale.

This means the scalpers also haven’t got their hands on the device yet, they have just successfully registered a pre-order for the device. And they are selling their registration to the highest bidder online. 

Another factor affecting the PS VR2 stock is the scarcity of PS5s. Sony wasn’t able to meet the demands of PS5 consoles either. This is why they aren’t confident enough to manufacture large quantities of VR headsets, which need a PS5 console to play. This wasn’t expected from Sony, as they are the current leaders in the VR Console market. 

What games are available on the PlayStation VR2? 

So far, the games library is very limited in the VR device. The official website of the PS VR2 has featured seven games so far: 

• Horizon: Call of the Mountain
• Firewall™ Ultra
• Resident Evil Village
• Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition
• No Man’s Sky
• The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Retribution
• Demeo

Among these, Horizon is so far the most expensive. It has the standard $59.99 price tag on it. The release date of PS VR2 is somewhere between February 22 – February 28, 2023.
