Kylian Mbappe‘s decision has set the entire world talking. The PSG ace has confirmed he will not extend his contract with the club. Moreover, it is an enormous blow for the Parisians, with Mbappe being the team’s poster boy for the last five years. To add to their woes, the club’s entire sporting project has revolved around the Frenchman as of late. His departure will probably leave a gaping hole in the team, with the squad yet to find a suitable replacement. However, former PSG president Alain Caizac has a different opinion, with the French business tycoon believing it is Ligue 1 that will take the biggest hit following Kylian’s exit.

The PSG star made a confirmation earlier this week, informing the club of his decision to leave as a free agent. Mbappe has attracted a lot of interest from some of the top teams in the world, with Real Madrid leading the race for his services. However, Los Blancos will have to compete against the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, with the two sides keen on acquiring the player’s signature.

Caizac opened up on the Frenchman World Cup winner’s exit in an interview while claiming that PSG has what it takes to bounce back from losing their biggest star. The ex-PSG president stated, “Mbappe’s departure will affect the French League more than Paris Saint-Germain. We will undoubtedly sell fewer shirts, but the marketing machine of Paris Saint-Germain is fantastically successful.”

He then claimed that PSG’s focus should be to find a replacement during the upcoming transfer window. “If I were president, I would not feel, ‘I am worried about the commercial repercussions of Mbappe’s departure.’ The only thing I will worry about is the next transfer window,” added Caizac. (Quotes compiled by RM4Arab)

Well, if you look at it from Caizac’s perspective, the ex-PSG boss surely has a point. While PSG has made money with Kylian Mbappe at the front, the side has the means to generate revenue despite losing their biggest star. However, with Mbappe out of the mix, Ligue 1 viewership and broadcasting rights are bound to take a major dent.

Ligue 1 is in for a massive setback!

The French soccer league could be in for a tremendous loss in the coming months. Ligue 1 currently rakes in a massive $148 million from broadcast rights, thanks to Kylian Mbappe’s presence. The league was set to receive a substantial boost to its viewership and sponsorship rights in the coming weeks. However, from the looks of it, the plans are likely to go up in smoke!

Reports suggest that Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) could take a sizable hit during their upcoming negotiations for the broadcasting rights. While the LFP was expecting an amount close to $1 billion for their broadcasting rights between 2024-2029, the numbers could see a significant drop. Sources close to LFP suggest that the league might have to settle around $850 million, observing a $150 million loss.
