Floyd Mayweather's protege Gervonta 'Tank' Davis' journey from humble beginnings to one of the biggest names in boxing

Gervonta Davis aims to become a three weight world champion at the young age of 26 this weekend. Ahead of his highly anticipated clash against Barrios, we take a look at his journey to the top.

Early Start

Davis had an abysmal family life, he was put in foster care at an early age. He started training at the uptown boxing center at the age of five under Calvin Ford who remains his trainer to this day. 

Decorated Amateur Career 

Davis had an extremely successful amateur career. He won the 2012 golden gloves, three straight National Silver Gloves Championships from 2006 to 2008 among other competitions. 

First world title 

Davis won his first world title after a 7th round stoppage win over Jose Pedraza. He won the IBF super featherweight title. 

Second world title

Davis won his second world title after a 12th round stoppage win over Gamboa. He won the WBA (regular) lightweight title. 

Third world title 

'Tank' is aiming to conquer the super lightweight division as he takes on undefeated champion Mario Barrios is a clash for the ages.
