The legendary boxer sided with Charlo, "I give Charlo a big chance because Canelo hasn’t looked that good in his [recent] fights. I know he said, you know, there was a few injuries, a few personal problems during camp."
CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, disclosed that Canelo has grand aspirations that extend well beyond his present feats. He stated that Canelo's goal is to surpass Floyd's record by conquering a greater number of world champions, "Floyd has defeated 23 world champions, current and former. Canelo’s at 18."
Abel Sanchez, the former trainer of Gennady Golovkin, stated, "I think he beats Charlo and eventually just. I am not going to say Charlo quits. But maybe quits in his mind. He’ll give Canelo a hard time early, but I think Canelo finally catches up with him, and maybe I think he wins a maybe 16-12 decision."
