Claressa Shields, Holy Holm and More, Boxing Champions Who Have Ventured Into The World of MMA

Several professional boxers have dipped their toes in MMA. Some failed, while some had a successful career in MMA. Regardless, here is the list of five successful professional boxers who have tried MMA.

Claressa Shields

The undisputed female light middleweight champion, Claressa Shields, recently made her professional MMA debut under the banner of PFL against Brittney Elkin, where she won via TKO. Now, she has a professional MMA record of 1-0.

Ricardo Mayorga

The former two-weight world champion in boxing, Ricardo Mayorga, has had four professional MMA bouts. Mayorga failed miserably in MMA as he lost three out of his four fights, and one was declared no contest.

Holly Holm

Holly Holm is the most successful professional boxer turned MMA athlete to this day as she went on claiming the UFC women's bantamweight title in her MMA career. She was also the IBA and WBF female light welterweight champion in boxing. 

James Toney

Former WBF heavyweight champion, James Toney, made his professional MMA debut inside the octagon against UFC heavyweight contender Randy Couture. He lost his MMA debut via submission and has an MMA record of 0-1.

Heather Hardy

In boxing, Heather Hardy held the WBO featherweight title. She made her professional MMA debut at Bellator 180, where she won via TKO. Hardy now has an MMA record of 2-2.
