George Russel's Attempt

On the opening lap of the Azerbaijan sprint, George Russell extended his elbows in an effort to pass Max Verstappen. The British driver was successful in doing so, although at the expense of breaking the side of Max Verstappen's RB19. The Dutchman, incensed by Russell's action, complained about it on his radio, saying that Russell should have given him more room. Verstappen's performance was hampered by the damage as he came in third after failing to pass Charles Leclerc in the final laps.

Max Verstappen reacting to contact with George Russell

Max Verstappen lost almost 7 tenths of a second per lap as a result of George Russell's hole in the side of RB19, according to Christian Horner. When Russell told Max that he had no grip after the race, the Dutchman argued that none of the drivers had any grip. Max Verstappen was astonished and perplexed when his engineer called him on the radio to inform him of the damage. What do you think, the engineer sarcastically questioned him? George's persistence in holding his position while damaging the Dutchman's car astounded him.

THE AFTERMATH OF THE RACE

Max Verstappen questioned George Russell as he continued to apologise for the situation after the race, when the vehicles were parked and the drivers were no longer inside. The irate Dutchman, however, told Russell to anticipate the same and afterwards referred to him as a d*ckhead. George Russell isn't one to hold back, so he reacted angrily to Max Verstappen's remarks that he won't pass up an opportunity to overtake him simply because Max is the leader of the championship.

According to the Tweet posted by formularacers on Twitter, George Russell said, “I think as a driver, you know the risks when you’re on the outside here.” “I’m here to fight, I’m here to win.” “I’m not going to hold back just because he’s leading the Championship…” “None of the contact was intentional.”
