Red Bull’s own power unit

Red Bull are investing a lot of money to build their own power unit which will come on stream in 2026. They partnered with American car giant Ford to make this possible. After Red Bull build their own power unit, we could see some potential customers and McLaren could be one of them.

Christian Horner confirmed McLaren’s interest

Red Bull Team Principal Horner spoke about McLaren’s interest in the new Power Unit during the Bahrain GP. He said, “It’s obvious that, as a power unit manufacturer for 2026, it’s inevitable that discussions are going to be held regarding potential powertrain supply, and that’s only natural that we would speak with potential customers.”

McLaren’s new signing fueled the speculation further

After McLaren announced the signing of Marshall, his former team Red Bull sent him some congratulatory messages. It seemed like they were happy to let him go. Meanwhile, as per reports, Marshall will be focusing on engine integration and chassis integration; moreover, he will focus on the 2026 car despite joining them in 2024. Certainly, this fuels the rumors about McLaren potentially joining hands with Red Bull in 2026.
