Mercedes’ double podium in Barcelona

Mercedes did not have a great qualifying in Barcelona. However, they performed fantastically in the main race, as Hamilton and Russell had P2 and P3, respectively. They made some upgrades in Monaco when they introduced the new sidepod design. They got the results in Barcelona.

Mercedes’ improvement or other teams’ failure?

Mercedes are currently fighting Aston Martin and Ferreri in the Championship, as Red Bull are out of their reach at the moment. Former F1 driver turned commentator, Jolyon Palmer recently said, “Mercedes were also flattered by their rival’s underperforming. Aston Martin was subdued in Spain. And then there’s Ferrari, a team that also had upgrades on this weekend but seemed to go backward rapidly.”

Mercedes could get a reality check in Canada

Palmer further said, “They have significant upgrades on the car and on the face of it, it looks like they are yielding immediate results. However, this has always been a strong Mercedes circuit… the track characteristics also enhanced their performance. Canada in a couple of weeks’ time might be a more interesting comparison, as it’s more akin to the street circuits we’ve had thus far.”
