Mercedes had a terrible start to this season, as both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell struggled with the new W14 car. However, Mercedes made some significant changes to their cars in Monaco, which brought them success in Barcelona. Moreover, they had a pretty good weekend in Montreal as well. A Former World Champion recently talked about Hamilton exposing Mercedes for their mistakes, which could be a blessing in disguise for the team.
The new regulations were introduced in the 2022 season to level the playing field. Moreover, the budget cap hit Mercedes really hard, as they could not adapt to the new rules and regulations. They also struggled with porpoising, characterized by bouncing motions in the car; hence the W13 car did not work last year.
After a series of disappointing results in the first few races, Mercedes announced the development of the B version of the W14 with new front suspension, side pods, rear wings, and others. This proved to be a game-changer for the team, as they had back-to-back great results in Spain and Canada.
Damon Hill, the 1996 world champion, recently talked to Express Sport, where he said, “He [Lewis Hamilton] scored points this year because he made them admit they [Mercedes] made a mistake. They have changed direction and are now going in what appears to be the right direction, and he is riding better too. He might have a car to fight for the championship with next year.”
