The accusations against Verstappen

As per reports, Verstappen was accused of evading nearly $200 million in taxes. Although Verstappen’s manager denied all the allegations, Dutch historian Rutger Bregman launched a scathing attack on Verstappen on LinkedIn. Notably, Verstappen was living in Monaco due to their tax rules.

Why is Verstappen living in Monaco?

As per American analyst Joe Pompliano, “Monaco has no income tax, no wealth tax, no local tax, no property tax, and no capital gains tax.” Moreover, there are fewer paparazzi as well. Not only Verstappen, but Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Valtteri Bottas, and many other F1 drivers also live there.

Verstappen received a warning

Rutger Bregman took to LinkedIn and wrote, “Crystal clear proposal from two economists of the Instituut voor Publieke Economie to make top athletes such as Max Verstappen (plus thousands of other athletes, coaches and wealthy Dutch people) also pay their taxes properly… Totally fine if people move to Monaco for peace and quiet… All that is allowed, as long as you continue to pay your taxes properly.”
