Fernando Alonso produces another masterclass

In Montreal, 2-time World Champion Fernando Alonso finished P2 and matched his best result of the season. As a result, Aston Martin are closing in on Mercedes in terms of constructor's points. Alonso had a problem with his car in Montreal

During his battle with Hamilton, Alonso’s engineers instructed him to lift and coast, which meant he had to lift off the throttle earlier than usual while braking for a corner and then coast the car into a corner. This reduces fuel usage, as they initially thought they had a fuel issue with Alonso’s car. However, Mercedes engineers told Hamilton that Alonso had a brake issue.

After the race, Aston Martin boss, Mike Krack said, “I think Lewis [Hamilton] was told we had a brake problem, and we looked at each other and said ‘oh, they know more about our car than we do, maybe we should speak to Mercedes’ engineers.”
