A Cheerful Update That Will Delight Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson Fans

Two legendary golfers, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will soon be on the same field at a major championship. It is reported that two of golf's biggest icons have registered for the 2022 U.S. Open.

Generally, the golfers would need to wait until the authority accepts their application to know whether they would play or not. However, since Woods had won the 2019 Masters and Mickelson won the 2021 PGA Championship, they are already qualified to take part in the tournament.

According to the Twitter post by TWLEGION, the two legendary golfers have already applied to be a part of the U. S. Open.

Who else is exempted from qualifying rounds ?

According to the U.S. Open official website, many golfers, including the defending champion Jon Rahm, are exempted from the qualifying round. Apart from Woods, Scottie Scheffler and Dustin Johnson are some of the Masters Champions who are exempted from qualifying rounds.

Unlike Lefty, Tiger’s three of the 15 majors are  U. S. Open titles. Woods had won his first U. S. Open in the year 2000. Furthermore, he won another 8 titles, including two other majors and a World Golf Championship, in the same year.

Since Phil turned pro in 1992, he has won six majors. Yet, he still hasn’t won a U. S. Open. However, he has come close to winning aplenty. Furthermore, the golfer has also lost the major with a two-shot lead behind in 2004, 2009, and 2013. Not to mention, Mickelson had also lost to Woods in 2003 against his 3-shot lead
