A mistake on the golfer’s part led the couple to get a divorce in 2010. Notably, as part of the settlement, Nordegren reportedly received $100 million from her ex-husband. While their relationship ended in court, the latter wanted to prove it to the entire world. Hence, she took a shocking measure.
Nordegren auctioned $2.5 million worth of jewelry Woods gifted her throughout their six-year-long marriage. According to reports, her jewelry collection included pieces from popular brands like Tiffany, Harry Winston, and Cartier.
“It’s the ultimate act of revenge,” a source close to Nordegren said. The source further added, “It’s her way of saying, ‘Now do you get the message? It’s over!”
“Money doesn’t make you happy,” Woods’ ex-wife told the People. “But I have to be honest: It is making some things easier,” she added. “I have the opportunity to be with my children as much as I want.”
The couple’s divorce was very messy due to the media attention that it grabbed. However, they decided that it was best to co-parent their children.
“She’s been one of my best friends,” Woods revealed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2016. The 15-time major champion also explained that they communicate better after their divorce than they did when they were married. Furthermore, when Woods was recovering from a nearly fatal accident in 2021, Nordegren made sure to help him see his children.
