Woods defied the odds after claiming his 15th Major title at the 2019 Masters. It was Tiger’s first major victory in 11 years. Nonetheless, the winner of The Masters then hosts Champions Dinner at Augusta National, which is held on the eve of the next year’s Masters. A win after so many years was surely quite hard for the Hall of Famer.
Before the 2019 Masters win, Tiger struggled a lot with his professional form. After claiming the victory at Augusta National, Woods got emotional as his kids too were old enough this time around to see him lift a Major trophy. The emotions carried on with the 15-time Major winner a year later at the Champions Dinner.
“Tiger gave a speech that was very emotional”, said Bernhard Langer, who was in attendance deeming his two Masters triumphs in 1985 and 1986. The German golfer added, “He thanked many of us for helping him over the years and he talked about how it was very emotional for him to win here last year because he didn’t know if it would ever happen again”.
Langer further talked about how Woods was happy that his kids finally witnessed him winning a Major. He said, “His kids were there in 2019 and he said that giving them a hug when he won reminded him of how Tiger used to give his own parents a hug when he won before. It was a great speech.”
After praising his speech, Bernhard Langer then spoke on how Woods should not retire yet. He said, “Tiger has a very competitive edge to his nature and he is going to try to play for a few years yet, if his body holds up”. Langer further added, “When you see him you think he is the immortal athlete”.
