As per reports, the 15-time major champion rejected a whopping $800 million offer from LIV Golf. However, this isn’t the first time that Woods has rejected an offer concerning Saudi Arabia. Walking down memory lane, in 2018, Woods rejected another million-dollar offer to play in Saudi Arabia.
The year 2018 was a pleasant one for the European Tour. Building further on its schedule, the tour announced its inaugural event in Saudi Arabia scheduled to be played from 2019 onwards. Being an inaugural event, the tour stepped up to rope in players to participate in the tournament.
Hoping to give a massive opening to the event, the tour offered $3.3 million to arguably the greatest golfer of all time, Tiger Woods. However, little did the officials know that they had opened the doors to their disappointment. However, despite his success in the middle east, he took no time to reject Europen Tour’s $3.3 million offer.
In 2018, the Middle Eastern country received colossal criticism for the death of journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, at the Saudi embassy in Istanbul. Walking on a similar path as Woods, numerous other sporting entities like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal also rejected offers to play in Saudi Arabia.
Four years later, the world has rightly moved over the displeasing death of Khashoggi. However, it hasn’t seemed enough for Woods who has opted to stay firm in his stand in terms of LIV Golf. Last playing at the Open Championship, fans are hopeful to see the former World No. 1 back on the golf course soon.
