9 Years Later, Alex Rodriguez Reveals How His Infamous PED Suspension Was a ‘Curse’ and a ‘Gift’

Former Yankee player, player Alex Rodriguez had a pretty amazing career and is arguably one of the greatest players in MLB history. However, he had a bad patch in his career when he was accused of using PEDs while being at the pinnacle of the game. Recently, he opened up about that dark moment in his life.

Alex Rodriguez’s dark chapter

In 2009, he was accused of using performance-enhancing drugs (PED) and was bashed by many fans and experts at that time. Later, he got himself involved in the Biogenesis scandal as well. Certainly, it dented his legacy quite a bit, but he powered through it.

A-Rod went through therapy

After the drug abuse scandal, A-Rod turned to therapy for some soul searching. He got into real estate. “That’s where my journey with therapy started and I turned the lens inward. And I had a lot of work to do… I’m in real estate–you can buy something, put paint, windows. You can fix it up but this time I had to tear the whole house down. And start with one brick at a time,” A-Rod said in the Club30 podcast.

A-Rod opened up about his controversy

In the Club30 podcast, A-Rod told former NHL player Henrik Lundqvist, “I let so many people down. And when I think about that moment–the gift and the curse of it–the curse is obvious… The gift was that it was the first time in my life that I heard the word no with a capital N and a capital O.”
