On the Black Diamonds podcast, MLB legend Derek Jeter shared his first meeting with Shohei Ohtani during a coaching trip to Japan after retiring. Impressed by the phenom's skills, Jeter knew he was witnessing a future top performer. Jeter said about the first meeting with Ohtani, "He’s a big boy. First time I met him was when I retired”.

So it was the first time I saw him and I’d heard about him was when he was playing in Japan.
