23XI Co-owner Denny Hamlin Favors Rivals Trackhouse Racing Driver Over His Own Driver Bubba Wallace

NASCAR

Bubba Wallace is currently having a pretty ordinary season. Moreover, he has garnered some unwanted controversy for himself and for the team.

Recently, his boss and the co-owner of 23XI Racing Denny Hamlin seemingly lost faith in Wallace, as he favored a rival driver over the 29-year-old.

Hamlin’s earlier comments on Wallace

Earlier in January, Hamlin talked really highly of Wallace, as he said, “Certainly we expect him to make the playoffs. You know Bubba did such a great job for, I mean, finishing in the top 10 and points for us racing in the playoffs… And then Bubba, just what he’s done over the last half of the year was just, he’s exceeded my expectation of his talent level.”

Wallace is on the verge of missing the playoffs

With 5 DNFs this season, Wallace has already made things really difficult for him. Currently, there are only 2 playoff spots remaining and the competition will get tougher in the last few races of the regular season. Wallace is also in 17th place in terms of points. He had 5 top 10 and 4 top 5 finishes this season; hence, there is still hope for him.

Hamlin favors Trackhouse Racing driver over Wallace

In the recent episode of the ‘Action Detrimental’ podcast, Hamlin said, “I’m gonna put (Chase) Elliot in, that leaves one spot between McDowell, Suarez, Gibbs, Bowman, Bubba, and Allmendinger… On performance, you look at what has performed over the entire season, (Daniel) Suarez’s team is the top. It is, it’s just the top, and he’s not at a deficit… ”
