As the regular season finale at Daytona approached, Bubba Wallace was in a do-or-die situation, battling to secure the last playoff spot. In an attempt to prioritize his mental peace, he opted out of a pre-race interview, a decision that didn't sit well with Kyle Petty. Petty unleashed a fiery tirade, labeling Wallace's refusal as unacceptable and suggesting that if Wallace couldn't handle the pressure, perhaps NASCAR wasn't the right fit for him.

Bubba Wallace didn't back down in the face of criticism. He addressed the controversy head-on during the Darlington media day, explaining his decision by saying, "As much as talking to media is really important, I'm sorry y'all don't pay my bills."
