In a recent interview, Bubba Wallace, a current playoff contender, revealed the unconventional mentorship methods of Kyle Busch, his former team owner.


The Beginning of Wallace's NASCAR Journey

Bubba Wallace embarked on his NASCAR career in 2013 under the tutelage of Cup champion Kyle Busch. He was often left bewildered by Busch's unique mentoring techniques. "He would talk to you, and he was like just do this, and you were like what? I’m trying to figure it out," Wallace recalled.


The Martinsville Speedway Test


Bubba reminisced about a challenging conversation with Busch after his first year. "I remember after Martinsville in 2013, it was the off-season, he sat me down and said if you didn’t win Martinsville, you were out. Simple as that."

Understanding Kyle Busch's Intentions

Wallace acknowledged that while Busch's methods may seem harsh, his ultimate goal is to push his mentees to be the best. "It may come off as being a jerk or being an as**ole sometimes, but I understand what he’s trying to go for," says Wallace, expressing his ambition to surpass his mentor.
