Hocevar has often expressed his admiration for racing legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. Despite not signing with JR Motorsports, Carson maintains a strong bond with Earnhardt Jr. He recalled, "We were at the Chevy display at Bristol and they asked me who was my coolest contact. I’m like, ‘Dale Jr.’ They said, ‘Would you call him?’ So I called him and put the phone to the mic and he answered within a ring."
