In one of the recent of his podcast, Hamlin candidly admitted that he purposely made contact with Ross Chastain during the race at Phoenix Raceway. And this confession caught NASCAR’s attention, resulting in a fine and a point penalty.
Last week, NASCAR announced a $50,000 fine and a 25-driver-point penalty for Hamlin. Citing that the Joe Gibbs Racing driver violated NASCAR Rule Book’s section 4.4.B, the governing body shared that it found Hamlin’s actions detrimental to stock car racing and NASCAR.
He said, “Certainly didn’t believe talking to the fans here… listening to this podcast would result in any kind of penalty of any sorts. But to my surprise, that happened.”
After a lot of consideration, and initially denying that he would be taking any action, Hamlin revealed that he would be appealing NASCAR’s penalty.
