Before the Las Vegas Cup race, Busch made an appearance on the Residency Podcast. During one point in the conversation, the two-time NASCAR Cup champion was asked to name a celebrity or an athlete who could be quick in a Next Gen racecar.
“I don’t know. You see a lot of these football guys, baseball guys…anyway, I don’t know if they can make it, I don’t know if they can cut it.”
Speaking about his childhood aspirations, Busch prefaced his recollection by claiming he “definitely would never make it” in the NFL. “I wanted to be a football player when I was a kid growing up and my dad was like, ‘Hell no. You’re not playing football,’” he said.
“So I was playing baseball, and finally my dad was like, ‘You have to decide. Are you going to play baseball or you’re going to race cars? Because you’re killing your grandma. You can’t keep going to both of these things all during the week. Pick one,'” he revealed.
“I chose racing which I kick myself everyday because I hear about the Bryce Harpers of the world and the contracts they get,” he said. “What an idiot!”
