Rookie Driver Ty Gibbs in Hot Water After Pit Road Incident
NASCAR
In the high-stakes world of NASCAR, it's not just about speed and strategy. A daring heart, momentum, and a keen sense of timing are equally important. The recent playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway was a testament to this, with an unexpected incident putting rookie driver Ty Gibbs in the spotlight.
A Fiery Mishap
During the race, Ty Gibbs, a rookie driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, found himself in a precarious situation. As he attempted to exit the pit road after refueling and tire changes, the Sunoco fuel can got stuck to his car. As he accelerated, the can detached and burst into flames on the pit road. "The pit members rushed to extinguish the fire and minimize any damage," said an eyewitness.
A History of Pit Road Problems
This isn't the first time Gibbs has had trouble on the pit road. He previously collided with his teammate Denny Hamlin during a race in Texas, causing significant damage to Hamlin's car and leading to Gibbs' retirement from the race.
In light of this incident, Brad Keselowski and Chris Buescher's team RFK Racing couldn't resist taking a sly jab at Gibbs on Twitter. They posted on their official page: "FIRE / not us this time." This was a reference to their own fiery mishap during a playoff race at Darlington when two of their crew members' fire suits caught fire during a pit stop.
