During the last lap of the 2020 Daytona 500, Newman was in second place behind Denny Hamlin and was trying to overtake him. However, Ryan Blaney was also trying to do the same when he bumped into Newman, which caused Newman’s car to spin and crash into the wall. Then, Corey Lajoie’s car also collided with Newman’s car, causing absolute chaos.
The aftermath of the crash
The safety workers immediately rushed to the spot to help Newman get out of the car. However, Newman suffered a bruised brain after the crash. Moreover, his helmet was completely crushed after a part of his car hit his helmet. He was admitted to the hospital; fortunately, he recovered well and returned to the track a couple of months later.
Meanwhile, Newman’s 12-year-old daughter, Brooklyn recently talked to Autoweek.com, where she said, “When you were going at Daytona, you were so slow that the cars behind you were catching you.” When Newman said, he did not remember the crash, Brooklyn hilariously said that her father don’t remember because he was “sleeping.”
