On Sunday, the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season kicked off with the most followed race on the calendar, the Daytona 500. However, the overcrowding of commercials left the racing fans extremely frustrated, which led to the viewers missing out on some significant moments on several occasions.
Denny Hamlin recently joined co-host Jared Allen at the “Actions Detrimental” podcast. During the conversations, Hamlin agreed with the criticism from the fans by deeming the commercials as ‘super loud’ and ‘super often’. However, he pointed out that they were a necessary evil for NASCAR.
“But, you know, race fan, let me just tell you like, this is where they really pay the bills. Like, you know, all of our TV partners, they want the Daytona 500. It’s our most-watched event of the year. So this is where they get a lot of bills paid. For what they pay NASCAR is during this event.”
Hamlin urged Fox Sports to make a slight change in the way they showed the drivers during the race saying, “Make sure all of our headshots are the same angle. Like one, I think, they moved me from face on goatee to now, I’m looking away. And it’s like you don’t even see my face.”
