Wife Amy Discloses Her Reaction to Dale Earnhardt Jr’s Ultimate Moment of Truth in 2014

NASCAR

Dale Earnhardt Jr. followed the path of his legendary father, Dale Earnhardt, and certainly made a name for himself. However, he had to go through massive health issues during his racing career.

Most of his health issues came from concussions. But he kept it a secret, even to his wife. His wife Amy recently talked about her reaction after learning about his concussions for the first time.

Dale Jr’s concussions over the years

Dale Jr believes that he suffered his first concussion back in 1998 when he suffered a crash. As per him, he has suffered 20-25 concussions since then. However, he kept most of those concussions a secret. In 2016, he had to sit through half of the season, as he was going through rehab. At the end of the 2017 season, he finally decided to retire from NASCAR as a full-time racer.

Earnhardt Jr kept it a secret from his wife Amy

In an interview with Graham Bensinger, Dale Jr. revealed, “You are mad inside about it yourself and now trying to explain to someone who’s not a doctor and not really someone that can do anything about it. Even though she’s my wife, and I love her to death, it just does me no good to share it with someone, anyone who can’t help me.”

Dale Jr’s wife’s first reaction

Talking to Bensinger, Amy said, “I was annoyed with him. Obviously, I want him to share everything and that’s not something you hide… I remember being a little bit confused, and just asking a lot of questions. He had so many notes he had saved in his phone. It was easy for him to explain it to me. But from that moment, my only thoughts were ‘Okay, how do we fix this, and who do we call? Surely there’s a plan here; what do we do?’”
