Before his NBA debut in 1995, Kevin Garnett, like many, aspired to be like Michael Jordan both on the court and in the sneaker game. Jordan's shoes had immense hype, with kids skipping school to buy them. KG saved up for a pair but his mother prioritized safety over style. The dangers of sneaker obsession were all too real. “We’re going to school and yeah, first time I heard someone get hurt over some shoes it made me go what, like, what, I can… get hurt over these,” said KG.
