NBA star Ja Morant had a good season last year. He won the Most Improved Player award and also led the Memphis Grizzlies to the Conference Semi-finals against the eventual title winners, the Golden State Warriors. Morant was also in the running for the MVP award earlier in the season. He has drastically improved over the last few years and is already the face of the Grizzlies franchise. Morant is also a fierce competitor and had some fiery clashes in the playoffs. With Morant on their side, it looks like the Grizzlies can only move forward from here.

Recently, Ja Morant sat down with ‘The Pivot Podcast’ and discussed a variety of things. During the podcast, Morant revealed that some of his individual and immediate goals were to be an All-Star and win the MIP award, NBA MVP award, NBA title, and Finals MVP award. He has already become an All-Star and also won the MIP award.

With the podcast full of NFL veterans, there were bound to be some questions in comparison to NFL. And former Jacksonville Jaguars running back, Fred Taylor drew some comparisons between Morant’s jersey number #12 and some of the greatest #12s to play in the NFL. Fred Taylor mentioned some of the great players in the history of the NFL like Joe Namath, Randall Cunningham, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers. But Taylor could only think of John Stockton who donned the #12 apart from Morant.

So he wanted to know whether Morant aspires to see his jersey hanging from the rafters in the future. The rising star recently agreed to a five-year, $231 million max rookie extension to stay with the Grizzlies. Ja Morant replied, “Yeah. Not only with the team I played for either. Like around the league, you know, that’s the goal. To you know have that big of an impact on the, you know, NBA to where I’m represented by not only the team that I played for but all the teams as a whole. As far as you know being the best #12, that’s definitely…”

Morant undoubtedly has huge aspirations, and he also has the potential to achieve them. In just his third season in the league, he averaged 27.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game. However, his efficiency behind the arc is arguably something to improve on. Also, as a high flyer, Morant is prone to get injured here and there. This affected his team's chances last year. In fact, he has never played a full 82-game regular season so far.
Nevertheless, at the back of an impressive season, it will be interesting to see how Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies fare in the upcoming season.
