BREAKING: Post Brittney Griner Special Request from Megan Rapinoe, POTUS Confirms National Security Team Put to Work Amid Medal of Freedom Talks

Brittney Griner’s situation has been the topic of discussion for months. After the 9 year prison sentence in Russia, the situation has only got worse. Not only in terms of the relations between the two nations, but also in the sporting world. Brittney Griner has received support from many athletes regardless of sports. Not only athletes but other major celebrities have also extended their sympathies and appealed for the government to take actions and bring her back.

LeBron James was one of the first athletes to publicly ask the government to help Brittney who was struggling in Russian prison. Another American legend who extended her support was Megan Rapinoe. Rapinoe specially asked Joe Biden to increase the government’s efforts to bring back Brittney Griner. Her “private ask” was over a phone call. The phone call was about Megan Rapinoe receiving her Presidential Medal of Freedom. But she took this opportunity to talk about BG and requested president Biden to “do more”.

The white House has not particularly answered or reverted back to such requests. However, one person familiar with the call said Biden assured Rapinoe that his national security team was pursuing every avenue to try to secure her release as quickly as possible, and would continue to support her family. In July, the American soccer legend received the call for a special honor from President Joe Biden. Receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation’s highest civilian honor.

While she must be elated to be deemed worthy of that, Rapinoe used the opportunity to speak about Brittney. This just shows that the whole incident has bothered people to the core. While there are many in unity for BG’s return, many hold her responsible for her suffering. Along with LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Megan Rapinoe, many others have shown how much they care about BG being in detention in Russia. They have voiced their opinion on bringing her back. LeBron spoke about it in his podcast “The Shop”.

He prayed for her and hoped that she would return soon. Shaquille O’Neal also spoke about her and extended support on his podcast “The Big Podcast with Shaq”. Steph was the host of the 2022 ESPYs Awards in July. He used the platform, along with Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith, to say some words in honor of BG. Apart from this, the WNBA is also doing its best to bring its star back. Megan Rapinoe also used the ESPYs opportunity to show her support as she gave a passionate speech calling for Griner’s release. She also wore a white suit with the letters “BG” emblazoned on the lapel as a tribute to Griner when Biden bestowed the medal of freedom on her in July.
