She suffered an injury to her right hand just days before UCLA left for the tournament, haunting UCLA's short stay in Oklahoma City. 

As she mentioned she picked up a book that changed her life, and she shared her journey of overcoming this issue. It was Kobe Bryant's "The Mamba Mentality."

Taking the mindset of the legendary Laker, Faraimo channeled her disappointment into winning pitcher of the year honors for the Pac-12.

she shared her experiemnce: “I could choose now to just get myself together or I could completely fall apart,” Faraimo said. “I decided, ‘No, this is my Kobe moment, I’m going to come back from this.’ ”

“As great of a competitor as Kobe was, he still had all these things in line,” Faraimo said. “He was still an incredible, responsible athlete.”
