Trae Young, Bradley Beal, Buddy Hield - All NBA Stars Linked to the Lakers

Ever since LeBron James landed in Hollywood over four years ago, the Los Angeles Lakers have not tasted success barring the 2020 NBA championship. Needless to say, amidst another struggling season, the King issued an indirect threat to Rob Pelinka and the top brass at the end of the year. Moreover, despite the existing trade rumors surrounding Bradley Beal and Buddy Hield, the Lakers may join a four-team race to land Trae Young. The Atlanta Hawks, like the Lakers, are struggling to add W’s to the column. Moreover, their franchise player Trae Young has also failed to live up to the expectations, ultimately landing him in the rampant world of trade rumors.

The Los Angeles Lakers join in on the Trae Young sweepstakes

With the NBA trade deadline just around the corner (Feb 09), rumors involving the Lakers are picking up steam again. Likewise, reportedly, the Lakers may join in on the Trae Young sweepstakes. The Atlanta Hawks are rumored to test the waters for a potential trade involving the young guard.

Interestingly, if the two-time All-Star were to get traded, the odds makers have ranked the teams which have the best chance of landing him. Surprisingly, the Dallas Mavericks topped the list, followed by Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, and the Denver Nuggets/Los Angeles Lakers.

Like the Lakers, the Hawks currently sit on the edge of the play-in tournament as the 10th seed with a disappointing record of 18-21. Though Young’s numbers scream ‘superstar,’ they hide the deficiencies in his game (3P% and Turnovers), which have led to winning-less basketball. Not too long ago, ‘Ice Trae’ led the Hawks on an impressive run to the Eastern Conference Finals. However, that run marks the end of Young’s list of achievements in Atlanta.

The Mavericks’ high rank on the list is puzzling, considering the events that occurred on the fateful 2018 NBA draft. During the draft, the Hawks agreed to trade away their rights at drafting Luka Doncic at No.3 overall for Trae Young and another first-round pick who turned out to be Cam Reddish. Needless to say, Hawks fans got the short end of the stick, as Doncic is having yet another MVP-like season, whereas Young has clouds of trade rumors above him.

Trade Rumors in Hollywood

Apart from Trae Young, the Lakers were previously embroiled in rumors involving Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards earlier this season. Moreover, fans strongly advocated shipping Russell Westbrook out of town in the offseason in exchange for Buddy Hield and Myles Turner from the Indiana Pacers. However, Pelinka and Co refused to put the 2027 first-round pick on the table leading to an uneventful off-season.
