Millions of people have gathered to mourn the tragic flames that devastated the town of Lahaina for this reason. To escape the raging fires, locals have been forced to flee on foot and leap into the ocean.

A coach who spotted Stephen Curry is helping his home

Don Nelson is regarded as one of the game's most innovative instructors. His most lethal weapon was his brain. Prior to Gregg Popovich taking the reins, Nelson had the most victories as a coach when he retired. The former Warriors coach is in charge of altering the game's pace and even implementing ground-breaking concepts like playing small ball. He was the top coach who revered the fast tempo that the game currently demands.

Nelson also had eagle-like vision for talent. He had a significant role in the selection of Dirk Nowitzki, who was just inducted into the Hall of Fame, and four-time champion Stephen Curry.  He purchased a vacation property in Kihei in 1995 while serving as the Golden State Warriors' coach. Initially, it was a financial commitment given his yearly vacation excursions to Hawaii. His kinship and bond with the earth deepened over time.

Nelson’s home rescue mission

Don Nelson started his real estate firm in 2011, following an initial investment in a few homes. He is currently seeing success with it. He has been able to help the villagers who had to contend with the devastating flames that ravaged Lahaina because of it as well. The 83-year-old is giving those who have lost everything free housing.

It’s his way of finding solace. It also gives him entry into the horror experience the residents had to face to get there. It would have been convenient for him to leave, settle anywhere on the glove with his NBA and real estate wealth. However, Nelson is dedicated to the town. It’s a place he calls home after all. “I’m not going anywhere,” he told San Francisco Chronicle. “This is home. Right now, it needs all our help.”
