NBA fans seem to connect with number #23 well. After all, the legendary number has been worn during the careers of two of the greatest athletes ever, LeBron James and Michael Jordan.
The Los Angeles Lakers have announced that King James will once again wear the number 23 in memory of the late Bill Russell. James is incredibly well-liked all around the world, but his jersey sales still lag well below those of Jordan.
Regarding the official jersey sales, there are no hard figures. But according to a 2008 story, Jordan's jersey was the most popular item ever sold at NBA shops. The second- and third-placed jerseys were worn by Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson, respectively.
The #6 was most notably worn by Bill Russell, a Boston Celtics great. After he passed away last year, the league made the decision to retire his number. However, because James was already sporting the number, he was permitted to keep it. James' representative said a few days ago that the billionaire will wear the #23 in memory of Russell. On Twitter, however, this attracted the attention of Michael Jordan supporters, who searched into the archives to criticise James' most recent choice.
