In 2022, Stephen Curry went on a historic playoff run. During his tenure with the Golden State Warriors, he helped them win their fourth championship while winning his first MVP trophy for the Finals. Johnson, a member of the Hall of Fame, took notice of this outstanding performance. Johnson described Curry's skills as follows: “First of all, movement without the ball …also be on balance to still shoot. And he can shoot off balance too. We’ve never seen that before.”
He further added, “For him to be that small and he can shoot from almost half court …and then, he’s a killer.” He then talked about his mentality during his own playing days. “People will look at the smile …’Oh, imma kill you. Imma try to take your head off,'” he said.
Talking about Curry’s playoffs run and how he reflects Johnson’s mentality in his game, he said, “What he did in that final was special because them first three games …but he shut everybody else who said he couldn’t be the Finals MVP …he already knew he could do it, he just showed everybody he could do it.”
The Warriors dynasty was widely regarded as having come to an end before to the 2021–22 season. The Warriors have gone two seasons without making the playoffs after their magnificent championship campaigns in the late 2010s. The twice-awarded MVP performed admirably, helping his group earn the second seed in the Western Conference. He then went on to explode in the playoffs, giving the Warriors a historic performance. The Warriors easily advanced to the Finals thanks to his scorching postseason performances. The Warriors won their seventh title after another Curry masterclass, giving him his fourth ring. For the first time in his career, he was also voted the Finals MVP.
