Making Met Gala Debut, Brittney Griner's Wife Cherelle Recounts on Painful Memories

Brittney Griner, a star player for the WNBA, has finally returned home, but the 10 months she spent there were quite difficult for her. Since her detention in February 2022, the Phoenix Mercury actress has had to undergo a lot. Cherelle Griner, her wife, had to endure a good amount of suffering while awaiting Griner's release, though. Cherelle talked about getting to go to her first-ever Met Gala event with her wife as she reflected on those times.

Griner's homecoming

Griner has been back in her home country for around four months, and she just made an appearance at her first news conference since then. Griner made several people take notice with her remarks regarding an ongoing political discussion just a few months after sparking a significant scandal following her arrest.

Cherelle Griner recalls her emotionally-charged past

Numerous celebrities from the entertainment and sports industries converged on New York City on May 1 for the Met Gala, an annual charity event. They included Cherelle and Brittney Griner, who were seen wearing nothing but Calvin Klein. Griner and Cherelle quickly chatted with Lala Anthony after arriving at the location.

When wife Cherelle was asked the same question, she emotionally recalled her dreadful days without her wife and said, “I mean, it’s surreal still. This time last year, I was missing my wife. So, to have her right here, to be in this moment, breathtaking.”

Brittney Griner reveals her future plans

The Mercury star centre recently revealed during a press conference that she will only participate in international competition if it is for the Olympics. Since 2014, Griner has been travelling to Russia each year to play in their offseason league before her arrest. She claimed that the enormous compensation disparity is one of the factors pushing WNBA players to go overseas. Griner expressed her wish that the league would expand and receive more attention in order to benefit women's basketball players.
