The United States of America has won the gold medal the most, five times, in the history of the FIBA World Cup. With an unblemished record, Team USA has been the most dominant team in the competition. Since the second World Cup, the team has been in complete control.
Until 2002, Yugoslavia reigned supreme in the tournament, accounting for the same number of championships as the United States. In fact, they got to the 5-championship mark before Team USA did. However, since the country split into SFR Yugoslavia and FR Yugoslavia, its record faced a setback. Their tally also did not carry forward to any currently active nation.
