$150,000,000 Giant Aaron Rodgers in Need of Breathing Space as Jets Salary Cap Crisis Hits Rock Bottom

Earlier on the Pat McAfee show, Aaron Rodgers expressed his desire to play for the New York Jets, as his relationship with the Packers hit rock bottom. Meanwhile, the Jets are still stalling to make a potential trade with the Packers, as their salary cap situation is getting really critical.

Rodgers’ move to the Jets

After having a nice conversation with Rodgers, the Jets owner Woody Johnson was almost ready to make the move. However, Rodgers said on the McAfee show that he was almost 90% retired after the last season, before changing his mind. This actually put the Jets in a dilemma, as they have yet to offer a price to the Packers for Rodgers.

As per NFL insider, Rich Cimini,  the Jets have around $9.5 million left in their budget for player salaries after the end of the free agency period. However, this sum won’t be enough to cover the whopping $16 million charge that comes with Rodgers’ existing contract.

The Jets still can manage their cap space and sign Rodgers

Former Jets GM and current NFL analyst, Mike Tannenbaum believes the Jets will restructure their roster to accommodate Rodgers when the time comes. Meanwhile, the Jets’ cap space in 2024 will see their top 51 players costing them only $143,609,359 of their total cap space. This leaves them with a team cap space of $112,390,641, which they could use to build a strong squad.
