65-Year-Old Chicago Bears Legend’s Heartbreaking Battle With ALS Lands Him in ICU

Steve McMichael, aka Mongo, Chicago Bears' legendary athlete, was admitted to the ICU following a severe condition. The 65-year-old NFL veteran has been diagnosed with ALS or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, an immensely rear neurological disorder, which has landed him in a situation where he requires constant assistance in movement or eating. Recently, in a degenerative condition, McMichael caved to a coma. 

Mongo’s current physical condition

According to Mongo's wife, Misty McMichael, the former NFL coach, is a bit better now. McMichael was diagnosed with the neurological disorder for three years now, where his motor system has been significantly affected. However, according to a recent update, Mongo has woken up from the coma indicating his recovery until the upcoming Hall of Fame event.

Misty sought fan’s prayer

Mongo's wife, Misty McMichael, sought fan's prayer as she believes this will bestow her husband with a speedy recovery. Moreover, with an optimistic tone, she stated, 'He needs to see himself enshrined in the Hall of Fame'. Recently, the Hall of Fame senior committee selected McMichael's name from 12 finalists to provide the honour of Hall of Fame 2024.

McMichael deserves the honour

McMichael showcased exceptional performances throughout his career ranging from 1981 to 1995. Above all, apart from being the 1985 Super Bowl Championship defence, McMichael participated in 191 consecutive regular seasons and 12 playoff contests in his 13 seasons.
