A Female Stroke Survivor Defies Odds to Compete in Bodybuilding Competition

Tracey Brown is no stranger to overcoming challenges. For several decades, the personal trainer has been pushing her clients and herself to the next level of physical fitness. But she’s come to know her own strength is more than physical.

In 2019, Brown traveled to California for a fitness show

However, she passed out before she could step on the stage. She woke up 3 days later from a coma and realized she had a stroke.

The doctors told her she was paralyzed and will not walk again

Brown challenged their prognosis. She spent several months in a California hospital undergoing physical therapy before returning home for more work.

Brown was soon back in the gym

Brown has been training 4-6 days a week for more than 6 months to condition for competition. Brown sometimes still struggles to control her left side. But she said the stroke gifted her a new level of empathy for her clients with physical challenges and a new level of resiliency.
