By day, he is a peer support specialist and by the end of it, he is a skateboarding teacher. He is Rudie Aguiar, a 42 year-old sharing his love and appreciation for the sport with Pocatello Boarding School. Now, with an aim to show people what skateboarding can do to somebody’s life, he signed up for a prestigious honor.

Skateboarding and its impact on Rudie Aguiar

When Aguiar moved to America from Mexico, it helped him a lot- from learning English to navigating through the American way of life. So, now he hopes to popularise the sport that gave him everything.

Late last year, Rudie launched Pocatello Boarding School, and he already has dreams of expanding it. So, he entered Tony Hawk’s Skatepark Hero - a competition for top 1% skateboarding role models to win $10,000, and meet Tony Hawk.

Should he win, Aguiar said he'd love to pick Hawk’s mind about how to popularise the sport before adding: “Our goals are ultimately the same — to grow skateboarding in the communities that don’t have access to those resources”.
