“Time to Go Kill”: Brazilian Surfer Opens Up About Future Ambitions Following Home Event Setback

Known by his nickname ‘Chumbinho’, João Vitor Chianca is the latest Brazilian surfing sensation causing a stir in the World Surf League. Born into a family of surfers, João Chianca made waves in the surfing world ever since his debut in 2022. However, the world no.2 has faced a setback in Saquarema, Brazil - his home event - after a grand finish in Portugal.

No.3 in the Championship as WSL headed to Brazil, the local Saquarema intended to pick up where he left off in Portugal. But J.Chianca lost to S. Pupo in the round of 16.

As a result of the bad run at Praia de Itaúna, J.Chianca dropped to 4th place in the Championship standings from third. However, instead of feeling let down, the Saquarema surfer aims at his spot in the Final 5.
