72-Year-Old Hiker Miraculously Rescued After Dramatic 50-Foot Slide in California’s Griffith Park

A 72-year-old hiker experienced a fatal accident while hiking the Bird Sanctuary Loop Trail and slid 50 feet off the trail. Her journey took a dangerous turn when she faced a steep and unstable terrain, leading to her tumbling down. Find out what happened in this story.

Spanning 4,210 acres, Griffith Park in Southern California provides opportunities for picnicking, horseback riding, jogging, hiking, and 53 miles of trail. The hiker slid 50 feet off the track while enjoying the Bird Sanctuary Loop Trail, which spans 1.2 miles.

Rescue effort

The Los Angeles Fire Department got the call around 05:21 PM local time and rushed to the site. After determining her exact location among the treacherous terrain and wooded canyon, they pulled her up with the help of ropes.

The hiker declined medical assistance

The rescuers were thrilled that the hiker miraculously suffered only minor scratches on her leg and could walk with them. She declined medical assistance or transportation to the hospital.
