A similar ironical incident took place recently with a double-amputee para cyclist, Ricardo Ten Argiles, at the 2023 UCI World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Though Argiles handled the situation humbly and professionally, fans find his facial expression heart-wrenching.

Argiles faced an ironic situation

A 47-year-old Spanish cyclist and swimmer, Argiles, whose both arms were amputated from the elbow, was awarded two gold medals as he won the C1 category. But the real punch came after that as along with the gold medals; he was also handed over a pair of Tissot wristwatches, which put him into an awkward situation.

Despite the embarrassing situation, Argiles dealt with the matter so skillfully as he was all smiling throughout his time at the award podium and also expressed his gratitude to the authority. However, fans find his smile as a mask over his discomfort. 

Social Media finds the matter disheartening

The incident got a mixed response from social media. While a few keep their mind positive and hope that he was gifted with an ankle band, on the other hand, a couple of fans criticised the incident, stating, "Not a very well thought gift."
